Lou Bravos
Western Region Committeeman
My name is Louis Bravos, I live in Bakersfield, California. I have made a family tradition of attending Society of the Third Infantry Division reunions with my wife, Rosa Bravos, my brother-in-law, associate life member Carl Krueger and sister, associate life member Gail Bravos of Alabama.
It is my privilege to serve as Western Region Committeeman. Similar to the way we were expected to know division history for a promotion board, as Society members we have a part in keeping the history of the Third Infantry Division alive.
I served in Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion 64th Armor, tank platoon in Kitzingen, Germany from 1975 to 1979. Between field problems, alerts and motor pool duties, I got my private pilot license at the Kitizingen Flying Club.
After my military service, I received my airframe and power plant mechanic's license at College of San Mateo on the GI Bill. I also got my commercial pilot license while there. I worked as air traffic controller from 1986-2013. Upon retirement from the FAA I rode a bicycle across the USA. I still drive my first car, a 1957 Ford station wagon, it was the family car when I was little and I learned to drive in it. I work as a volunteer bicycle advocate and board member at Bike Bakersfield in Bakersfield, CA. I enjoy meeting and interacting with my fellow Dogface Soldiers and the camaraderie that I experienced in the Division is present when I attend Society meetings and reunions!
